Take a Look at Lakewood ...in the heart of
Western Washington...
A
brand-new city with a long history -- and a lot to offer
you! Because Lakewood is continuously increasing in size,
with new developments and new businesses coming in, this
program is a tool that focuses on livable wage
jobs, job retention, employer responsiveness, and integrated
human services. Newcomers to the area from across
the nation bring a wide variety of capabilities. This
program is a forum to assist those individuals, employers,
as well as the local community to be better aware of job
vacancies, requirements and qualifications.
This
program is geared towards attracting newcomers to our
website allowing them access to job information and educating
some of the less fortunate or those who may have not been
working. As individuals seek to enter the workforce for
the first time or reenter the workforce after a period
of unemployment, they often need support services to become
“ready to earn.” Lakewood's Job-Connection includes community-based
agencies which can provide guidance and direction.
In
this program, employers can post job vacancies which are
accessed by the public. Those jobs will also post the
education, training or experience required. For those
individuals who don't quite meet the requirements, several
local educational institutions and agencies can assist
job seekers with obtaining the proper qualifications and
several businesses will hire new employees if they are
continuing their education with a local institution.
Some
of the other services available include job readiness
skills which links the individual with needed services.
Services, provided by community-based agencies, may range
from those specifically designed to improve job skills
(e.g., training, resume writing, job search skills, English
as a Second Language classes) to those support services
that enable an individual to remain in a job (e.g. transportation,
child care, housing etc.).
For
the small business owner, the Lakewood Chamber provides
an in-house "Business Resource Center"
which includes Internet access, information on major aspects
of the community, small business loan information, application
forms, and many of the latest business publications and
much much more...The Business Resource Center is open
7 days a week, please call the Lakewood Chamber for scheduling
